In recent years, there have been a number of scientific studies carried out all over the world on the benefits of green tea, too many to list here. We offer a summary of a few of the findings :

Cancer:
The regular drinking of green tea appears to have a protective effect against some cancers, notably of the stomach, the ovaries, prostate and oesophagus. The research appears to show that green tea plays a role in killing cancer cells and inhibiting the development of the disease.

Stomach problems:
Green tea has antibacterial, antiseptic and detoxifying properties that seem to make it effective in the treatment of stomach and bowel inflammation. Sufferers from Irritable Bowel Syndrome have reported immediate relief. It also appears to kill the type of bacteria responsible for the majority of stomach ulcers.

Cholesterol and Fat Absorption:
Studies have shown that green tea appears to lower cholesterol, even among regular smokers. It also seems to speed up calorie burning by around 4%.

Ageing:
Regular green tea consumption appears to slow the effects of ageing both in the body and the brain, providing some protection against conditions like Alzheimer’s disease and also arthritic conditions. Amongst older women, regular tea drinkers were found to have a higher bone mineral density than non-drinkers.

Heart Disease:
Recent research has revealed that regular green tea drinking (more than two cups a day) appears to protect the heart, significantly increasing the survival rate following a heart attack.

Remember too that green tea has around a quarter of the caffeine of black tea, and that can only be good.
